Login to a Resource Mailbox With OWA or Outlook

Question

  • How do I log into a resource mailbox?

Requirements

  • Have been granted access to an Exchange resource mailbox
  • Know the email address of the resource mailbox
  • Have a Windows or Mac computer

Note: Full mailbox access allows you to open a mailbox. Send As access allows you send mail from that account. 

Resolution

Method 1 - Use Outlook Web App

  1. Open a web browser and enter https://exmail.oregonstate.edu/owa/email.address@oregonstate.edu - where "email.address@oregonstate.edu" is the email address of the resource mailbox you need to access
  2. Enter your username and password when prompted
    • Note: enter your username as username@oregonstate.edu
  3. Bookmark the web address for easy access in the future

Method 2 - Configure Outlook for Windows or Mac

Outlook 2016 for Windows

  1. Open Outlook 2016 for Windows
  2. If you are prompted to create a new profile, enter a profile name and click OK
  3. On the Auto Account Setup page, enter the email address of the resource mailbox
  4. Leave the password boxes blank and click Next
  5. If you are logged into Windows with your ONID account, Outlook will authenticate you with that username and password; otherwise you will be prompted to enter your ONID username and password
    • Note: enter your username as username@oregonstate.edu
  6. A pop-up notice may warn you that you will need to restart Outlook for the changes to take effect; press OK
  7. Click finish when you see "Congratulations!"

Outlook 2016 for Mac

  1. Open Outlook 2016 for Mac
  2. In Outlook, select the Outlook menu and choose Preferences
  3. Select Accounts
  4. Choose "Exchange or Office 365"
  5. In the E-mail address field, enter the email address of the resource mailbox
  6. In the username field, enter username@oregonstate.edu where "username" is your ONID username
  7. Enter your password
  8. Click Add Account
  9. You may see a pop-up warning you about autodiscover.oregonstate.edu; check the box to "Always use my response for this server" and click Allow
