Issue/Question
- How do I install the Avaya One-X soft phone client?
Environment
- Oregon State University
- Employee
- Telephones
- Windows
If you are using a Mac, please see: Soft Phone via Citrix
Cause/Explanation
To follow these steps, you will first need to ask Telecom to enable your OSU extension for soft phone access. For more information, see: Soft Phones - About.
Resolution
Note: these steps require local administrator access to your computer. Also, you must be connected to the OSU VPN before launching the Avaya One-X Communicator; this is true even if you are on-campus.
- Browse to: https://oregonstate.app.box.com/v/Avaya-Softphone
- Download the file onexc_6.1.8.06.zip
- If the computer is Windows 11, please download onexc_6.2.14.15-sp14p7.zip
- Extract the zipped file to a folder on your computer
- Right-click on Setup.exe and choose "Run as Administrator"
- If on Windows 11 instead of Setup.exe it will be Avaya one-X Communicator Suite.exe
- You may be prompted to close applications like Outlook and Firefox
- If you receive an error about .NET, run the file dotNetFx40_Full_x86.exe in the folder you extracted
- If you receive an error about vcredist or 32-bit apps, run the file vcredist_x86.exe in the folder you extracted
- If Setup.exe takes too long to install, launch onexc_setup_6.1.8.06_40314.msi instead
- If an error pops up saying to install Visual C++ 2005 redistributable run vcredist_x86.exe before launching onexc_setup_6.1.8.06_40314.msi.
- Enter your local administrator username and password when prompted
- If on Windows 11, when it asks for Setup Type choose Custom, then select only Avaya one-X Communicator and click Next
- On the setup welcome screen, click Install
- When the installer is complete, click Finish
- The Avaya One-X Communicator application should start up
- If you see a Security Alert message, click Allow access
- On the Setup window, select "Telephony Setup" only and click Next (Note, "Telephony Setup" may be grayed out but should still have a check mark next to it)
- Select H.323 and click Next
- In the Telephony Setup window, enter the following:
- Extension: the last 5 digits of your OSU phone number
- Password: the last 5 digits of your OSU phone number
- Click the Add button and input the appropriate server IP address in the list according to your campus location:
- Corvallis: osu-sftphn.voip.oregonstate.edu
- Bend: osucc-sftphn.voip.oregonstate.edu
- HMSC: hmsc-sftphn.voip.oregonstate.edu
- Portland: osupdx-sftphn.voip.oregonstate.edu
- Click OK, and then Next
- On the Add phones menu, click Next
- At the option to "Select phone for placing and receiving calls", select This Computer and click Next
- Leave "Enable Emergency Call Handling Feature" checked and "Your extension number" selected; click Next
- Click Finish
- The Avaya One-X Communicator will shut down
- Connect to the OSU VPN
- Start the Avaya One-X Communicator
- On the login screen, you should see your extension already entered; if the Extension box is empty:
- Click on the gear icon and select Settings
- Make sure H.323 is selected
- Enter your 5-digit OSU extension and password (same as your extension)
- Click Add and enter the server based on the options above
- Uncheck Enable Video Calls
- Click OK
- Click Log On
- If get a "Login Error" message make sure that in Settings -> Login the "Use Avaya one-X Client Enablement Services account" box is unchecked.
- You may see the message "Existing Login Detected" because your desk phone on campus is already signed in to your extension; click Yes
