Guide: OSU Wireless Networks

Question

  • What wireless networks are provided at OSU?

Environment

  • Oregon State University
  • OSU locations (Corvallis campus, OSU-Cascades, HMSC, Agricultural Experiment Station or County Extension Office)
  • Wireless networks

Explanation

The following wireless networks are provided at OSU locations:

  • OSU_Secure
  • Eduroam
  • Visitor (not available in residence halls)
  • OSU_Unsecured (available in residence halls only)
  • OSU_Access (not available in Residence halls and some buildings)

The OSU_Secure and Eduroam networks are configured the same way and provide access to the same resources with one exception: the Eduroam network also allows users to connect to Eduroam at other participating institutions. For this reason, we recommend OSU students and employees configure their devices to connect to Eduroam. See our Wireless KB articles for steps to connect to OSU_Secure or Eduroam.

The Visitor network can be used by visitors to OSU who do not have an OSU account. For more information, see Visitor Wireless.

The OSU_Unsecured network is provided only in residence halls and is intended to allow consumer devices such as Roku, Echo Dot and gaming consoles to obtain network access. The OSU_Unsecured network does not allow access to OSU resources.

The OSU_Access wireless network is being decommissioned during Fall term 2018 due to security concerns.
