The UDOIT Accessibility Check is a tool for faculty to quickly identify and fix common accessibility issues in their Canvas course content. This tool is not visible to students in Canvas.
Here are just a few of the accessibility issues that the tool will detect:
- missing alternative text for images
- poor color contrast
- missing descriptive link text
To enable UDOIT Accessibility Check in your course menu:
- Click on Settings in your course menu
- Select the Navigation tab
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and locate the UDOIT Accessibility Check tool
- Click on the Gear icon for the tool and select Enable
- Scroll to the bottom of the page again and click Save
- You should now see UDOIT Accessibility Check in your course menu
To use UDOIT Accessibility Check:
- Click on UDOIT Accessibility Check in your course menu and authorize the tool.
- Wait for the tool to complete a scan of your Canvas course. A blue bar near the top of the page indicates the scan is in progress.
- Click the Home or UFIXIT tab at the top of the page to get started.
- The Home tab provides recommendations for getting started, selecting an option will take the user to a filtered list on the UFIXIT tab
- The UFIXIT tab displays a filterable list of all issues in the course
- Once on the UFIXIT tab, click Review for any issue to review information and options for resolving the issue
- Review the issue message, the source of the issue, and select an action to resolve the issue, mark it manually resolved, or move on to another issue.
