Cause/Explanation
Name information in Canvas is managed by an automated process which synchronizes names from the university's Banner system to Canvas. However, sometimes the name displayed in Canvas is not correctly updated when a name change occurs in Banner i.e., a name-in-use change or legal name change.
Name information cannot be modified directly in Canvas and must instead be updated by the Office of the Registrar for students or Human Resources for employees.
Resolution
For Students
- Ensure that a Biographical Information Update form has been submitted to and processed by the Office of the Registrar.
- After receiving confirmation from the Office of the Registrar that your name has been updated, wait 24 hours for the change to propagate through university systems.
- If your name has not updated in Canvas, send an email to Canvas@oregonstate.edu. Please include the confirmation you received from the Office of the Registrar.
For Employees, including student employees
- Ensure that an Employee Name Change form has been submitted to and processed by Human Resources.
- After receiving confirmation from Human Resources that your name has been updated, wait 24 hours for the change to propagate through university systems.
- If your name has not updated in Canvas, send an email to Canvas@oregonstate.edu. Please include the confirmation you received from Human Resources.
