Environment
- Oregon State University
- Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10
- Mac
- Zoom Users
Cause
The alternative host option allows you to schedule meetings and designate another Licensed user on the same account to start the meeting or webinar if you are unable to. This user will receive an email notifying them that they've been added as an alternative host, with a link to start the meeting. The alternative host will need to use the link in the email or have the calendar invite sent to them by the original host and use the join link there. The meeting will not display in the upcoming meetings list in the desktop client or mobile app for alternative hosts.
If a host is attending a meeting but needs assistance with managing the meeting, they can assign a co-host during the meeting.
Resolution
Method 1 - How to Schedule an Alternate Host
https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/208220166-Alternative-Host
- Login to Zoom at zoom.oregonstate.edu.
- Select Schedule located in the upper right hand corner of the window.
- Enter your meeting topic(title), date/time, and customizations.
- At the bottom of the schedule page locate the Options field.
- Click the Show button to expand additional options.
- Enter one or more email addresses (use a comma if entering multiple emails) in the Alternative Hosts bar.
NOTE: Alternate hosts must sign in to OSU Zoom at least once prior to being added AND you must enter their ONID@oregonstate.edu email address.
- Click Save.
- A page displaying meeting details will appear. You may mainipulate the meeting using the buttons at the bottom of the screen.
Note:
- If the user was assigned successfully, they will appear on the summary page and receive an automated email notification.
- If an alternative host cannot be assigned and you receive an error message, it's likely because the user has not signed into OSU Zoom or their ONID email was not entered.
Method 2 - Leverage Co-Host while Meeting is Running
https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/206330935-Enabling-and-Adding-a-Co-Host#h_9c3ee7f2-b70c-4061-8dcf-00dd836b2075
During a live meeting, the host can make another participant a co-host through the Participants window. The participant that will be a co-host is NOT required to sign into OSU Zoom and they do not have to be an OSU Faculty/Staff/Student.
- Click on Participants in the meeting controls at the bottom of the Zoom window.
- Hover over the name of the participant who is going to be a co-host, and click the three dots.
- Click Make Co-Host.
Once a participant has been made a Co-host, they'll have access to the co-host controls.
