Exchange Email - Update Outlook Profile after Email Address Change


  • I changed my email address but the old address still shows in Outlook in the folder list and the From line when I send messages.

This is a known issue and Microsoft says it is intended behavior:

The only fix is to recreate the Outlook profile (or add a new Outlook profile).


Create a New Outlook Profile

Warning: Many things can be linked to an Outlook profile, including PST files, additional mailboxes, and additional calendars. When a new profile is created, these items must be reconnected. 

These steps require local admin access on the computer. If you do not have local admin access, please contact your desktop support team.

  1. In Outlook, select File -> Account Settings -> Manage Profiles
  2. In Mail Setup, select Show Profiles
  3. Select Add and give the new profile a name
  4. Enter the email address and select Next
  5. Once Outlook has finished configuring, select Finish
  6. On the Mail screen, set the new profile under "Always use this profile" OR select "Prompt for a profile to be used"
  7. Close all Outlook windows
  8. Reopen Outlook
  9. Confirm the email address is now displayed correctly in folder list and when composing a new message.
  10. If additional PSTs, mailboxes or calendars are needed, be sure to add them back to the new profile
