Canvas: Set up or manage the Canvas gradebook

Overview

Canvas is Oregon State University's Learning Management System.

Gradebook Columns

Columns in the Canvas gradebook are directly linked to graded activities in the course. Creation of a graded assignment, graded discussion, graded quiz or a graded survey will result in the creation of an associated gradebook column in the course. For example, if you need a column in the gradebook to enter scores from the final exam taken in class, you will create a final exam assignment in Canvas.

Check out the Canvas Instructor Guides for more information on creating graded activities in Canvas:

Assignment Groups

Assignment groups in Canvas create automatically calculated subtotal columns in the Canvas gradebook. Assignment groups can also be used to weigh grades and/or drop (ignore) scores.

Grading Schemes

Instructors can enable and modify a letter grade grading scheme based on either an assignment percentages or the course total percentages in Canvas.
