License Restrictions
Available for OSU faculty, staff and students on institutional and personal devices or computers for use in education and non-commercial research.
OSU has licenses for the Standard Campus Edition of SPSS + Missing Values. Below is a breakdown of the different versions.
Resolution
If installing from off campus, make sure to connect to the VPN before proceeding.
Windows
- Navigate to \\software.oregonstate.edu\software\SPSS in Windows File Explorer.
- If prompted for a login, enter "ONID\[Your ONID Username]" for the usernname and your ONID password for the password.
- Find the desired version of SPSS and copy the Windows folder under it to your desktop.
- Run the setup.exe file.
- Click next.
- Read and accept the license agreement.
- When prompted, make sure "yes" is selected for installing IBM SPSS Statistics - Essentials for Python.
- Read and accept the following license agreements.
- Choose where to install SPSS (usually fine to leave this at the default).
- Click Install.
- When finished, make sure the box to open the licensing manager is selected.
- When prompted for licensing, select "Authorized user license".
- Enter the code provided by the Software Coordinator and click next.
- IMPORTANT: For SPSS 25-28, apply the Log4j patch found in the SPSS [Version] folder. Follow the the steps in the text file for where to copy the updated jar files. AS OF 2/22/2023 SPSS 28.0.1.1 or later does not need the Log4j patch applies.
MacOS
- Open Finder and select "Go -> Connect to Server".
- Enter "smb://software.oregonstate.edu/software" and click "Connect".
- If prompted for a login, enter "ONID\[Your ONID Username]" for the usernname and your ONID password for the password.
- Find the SPSS folder and desired version.
- Copy the Mac folder for that version to your desktop.
- Double click on the .dmg file to open the installer.
- Double click on SPSS_Statistics_Installer.
- Click Okay.
- Read and accept the license agreement.
- Make sure "yes" is selcted for installing Python for SPSS.
- Choose where to install SPSS (default location is usually fine).
- Make sure the checkbox at the end of the installer is checked to open the licensing wizard.
- Select "Authorized User License" and enter the activation code provided by the Software Coordinator and click next.

Linux
- Linux installers are available under \\software.oregonstate.edu\software\SPSS

License Renewal
These steps are for when SPSS is already installed, but a new activation code is needed. New activation codes can be requested from here: https://oregonstate.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/1935/Portal/Requests/ServiceDet?ID=43973
- Find and launch IBM SPSS Statistics License Authorization Wizard (LAW).
NOTE: On Windows machines, right click -> run as admin on the LAW to make changes.
- In newer versions of SPSS, the Licesning Wizard can be accessed in SPSS via File->Manage License->Launch License Wizard
- Select the first option: “Authorized user license” and click next.
- Enter the new activation code and click next.
- A message should popup that the license has been activated.
NOTE: If renewing SPSS on a laptop, make sure the laptop is not connected to a docking station when licensing the software.
