Duo - Sign-Up with a Mobile Device

Duo Setup Walkthrough

 

  1. Go to website:  uit.oregonstate.edu/duo  
  2. Click "Sign up for Duo".
  3. You will be directed to the OSU Login page. Sign in with your ONID account.
  4. Click on "Sign up for Duo".Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  5. Click "Next" until you reach the screen below, then click "Duo Mobile".Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  6. Enter your phone number for the device that you want to use with Duo. If you want to use a tablet, click "I have a tablet".Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  7. If you do not have the Duo Mobile app installed, download it from your mobile phone's app store and open it. (The App Store for iPhones. Google's Play Store for Android phones.)
    If you have installed the Duo Mobile app already, skip to Step 9.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  8. Once the app is downloaded, open it. You may see a "Welcome to Duo Security" screen, hit continue until you see the screen below.
  9. Go back to the Duo setup page you were at in Step 7.
  10. Click on "Next".
  11. Continue to follow the instructions on-screen. You may be asked to allow Duo Mobile to use your camera. If so, allow Duo to use your camera. This is so the Duo Mobile app can scan a QR code. 
  12. If using you're using the Sign up for Duo website on your phone, click on "Take me to Duo Mobile." Approve the pop-up if one shows up.
    • If you're using the Sign up for Duo website on a computer, either scan the QR code from within the Duo Mobile app on your phone or click on the email activation link sent to your email and allow it to open Duo Mobile.
  13. "Oregon State University" should be automatically added to Duo Mobile. You may need to close and restart Duo Mobile in order for it to appear (see "Troubleshooting" section at the bottom of this page for more info). You may also be asked to name the account. After you see the account in Duo Mobile, go back to the Sign up for Duo website.
  14. Click on "Continue".Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  15. If you would like to also add a security key, click "Use a security key". Otherwise, click "Skip for now".Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  16. Click "Log in with Duo".Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  17. Enter the verification code into Duo Mobile on your newly setup device, then hit "Verify".
  18. After completing the login with Duo, the webpage will update to indicate that sign-up is complete.

Troubleshooting

Duo freezes when scanning the QR Code

After you scan the QR code with Duo Mobile on your phone, you will see a check mark on the QR code on your screen. If Duo Mobile freezes, cancel the scan. Then use your computer to do the Duo push to complete setup.

Account not appearing in Duo Mobile after clicking on email activation link or "take me to Duo Mobile" link

After clicking on the email activation link or the "take me to Duo Mobile" link and approving the popup to open Duo Mobile, you may be brought back to the "Welcome to Duo Mobile" or "Add your account" screen. Completely close or restart Duo Mobile and after reopening, you should see the Oregon State University account. Please note, simply exiting the app will not work. If you're not sure how to close out of the app completely, restarting your phone should also resolve this issue.
